Healthcare Risk Manager (RN) – Hybrid

Details:

Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine (MMIC), a Portland-based medical professional liability insurance company, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with a background in healthcare risk management, patient safety, or quality improvement to join our team.

This role provides direct consultative services to insured hospitals and physicians, including risk assessments, patient safety evaluations, and educational programming. The position is located in Portland, ME, with a hybrid schedule and requires frequent travel throughout Northern New England, with occasional overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive healthcare risk management and patient safety consultation
  • Conduct on-site risk assessments and safety evaluations at healthcare facilities
  • Analyze adverse events and system risks; recommend mitigation strategies
  • Develop and deliver educational programs and presentations for clinicians
  • Collaborate with underwriting and claims teams
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with insured hospitals and physicians

Qualifications

  • Active, Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare risk management, patient safety, and/or quality improvement
  • Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, and risk mitigation
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Willingness to travel regionally (including occasional overnight travel)

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree, clinical background, or experience with medical professional liability insurance is a plus
  • Preferred certifications: CPHRM, CPHQ, CPPS

Work Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, full-time
  • Portland-based, hybrid work schedule
  • Standard 8-hour shift
