Job Overview
Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine, a Portland-based medical professional liability insurance company, seeks a detail-oriented Financial Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing financial data, developing financial models, and providing insights that support strategic decision-making. This role requires a strong understanding of corporate finance and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to management, regulators, and other interested parties.
Duties:
- Prepare Quarterly and annual Statutory Reports and other monthly reports for regulators and others. Analyze significant changes from the prior period for reasonableness and accuracy. This role requires a strong understanding of corporate finance and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to management, regulators, and other interested parties.
- Respond to questionnaires, surveys, and requests for information from other departments, agencies, and companies.
- Calculate reserve estimates for periods not analyzed by actuaries.
- Collaborate with various departments to gather data for quantitative research and analysis.
- Prepare monthly proofs for the general ledger.
- Maintain monthly Excel file of premiums written and ceded for policies by line of business.
- Prepare monthly reports on premium activity, analyzing reports and creating graphs for actuaries.
- -Develop and utilize reporting tools, such as F9, Crystal Reports, pivot tables, and other analytical tools, to analyze large datasets.
- Provide recommendations based on analytics to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Skills:
A Degree in Accounting, a minimum of 3-5 years of financial reporting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Insurance experience is a strong plus.
- Strong proficiency in financial modeling and analytics.
- Experience with quarterly and annual statutory reporting.
- Ability to conduct quantitative research effectively.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration across teams.
