Risk Management Seminar: Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns for 2026

The presentation provides an overview of the Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns for 2026, highlighting the most urgent and emerging risks across healthcare care settings. ECRI, an independent nonprofit dedicated to improving the safety, quality, and cost effectiveness of healthcare will share highlights from the report which examines imminent patient safety challenges across the continuum of care through data analysis, scientific literature search, client research requests and inquiries, and patient safety events reported to or investigated by ECRI and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) PSO. Participants will gain a high level understanding of the most pressing issues along with practical, systems based strategies to strengthen organizational safety and drive meaningful improvement.
Objectives
- Describe how ECRI and the ISMP PSO use a learning system approach to create and disseminate the list of Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns
- Discuss the impact of each of the ECRI Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns for 2026
- Discuss how elements of a total systems approach to safety and recommendations for improvement can be used to address each of the concerns
