Company Launches Online Customer Service Portal
Policyholders, practice
managers and institutional
administrators
will now have online
access to Medical
Mutual policy and
account information
with the recent launch
of the Company’s new
web portal — MMIC
Central. The Company
launched the
portal on July 1 after
over a year in development
and testing.
Steve Hodgkin, Chief Information
Officer, called MMIC Central an important
new customer service tool as it provides
anytime access to comprehensive
and up-to-date information in a highly
secure environment.
"With just a few clicks, clients are now
going to be able to view details like coverage
limits and the names of all the insureds
on a policy, as well as historical billing and
payment information," said Hodgkin. Just
as important, continued Hodgkin, MMIC
Central features a Document Transfer Center
that provides an ultra-secure method
for clients and business partners, like legal
advisors or authorized agents, to transfer
sensitive files to and from MMIC Staff.
Privacy, Security Were Top Priorities In Development
The Document Center is designed to
allow files to be moved to and from Medical
Mutual staff. This function is similar
to an email attachment but with one
major difference – it's more secure. "You
may use a password to gain access to your
email, but unencrypted emails that travel
across the internet are not private –
MMIC Central's Document Center is,"
said Hodgkin.
Hodgkin said portal users will
be granted different levels of access to
information, depending on their role
relative to any given policy. "A lot of
thought went into the question of viewing
privileges. First and foremost, we
need to protect privacy. We came up
with a sensible hierarchy that provides
appropriate access, control and ongoing
accountability," said Hodgkin.
One Primary Administrator, as determined
by the Underwriting Department
and each client, will be granted privileges
to view all information related to specific
policies and their corresponding billing
accounts. That Primary Administrator
will also be able to grant viewing privileges
to Secondary Administrators, as well as
those named on the policy. Group members
will be able to view their own coverage
information only, unless they are also
named as an MMIC Central Administrator
of the policy in question.
User Registration Underway
Invitations to register as an MMIC Central
portal user have already started going out
to the Company’s business partners,
whose privileges are confined to use of
the Document Center. Medical Mutual
Underwriters will also begin sending
invitations to Practice Administrators soon.
Employed physicians and other users
within insured organizations will receive
invitations from their policy Administrators,
though they may also go directly to
MMIC Central and register by visiting
