Two Second Annual Programs Show Increasing Interest in Risk Management Education
“Excellent.”
“An eye opener.”
“Very informative and helpful.”
You might say that Medical Mutual’s
recently-held Hospital Education Program
and Practice Manager’s Workshop were
critically-acclaimed. The reviews submitted
by participants showed widespread
enthusiasm for the value of the information
presented and the risk management
strategies shared by the programs’ leaders
and attendees alike.
Judging from the written evaluations of
the programs, as well as their strong attendance,
the interest in such seminars may
well exceed the Company’s original expectations.
Commenting on her participation
in one of the Practice ManagerWorkshop’s
four break-out sessions—Termination of a
Physician-Patient Relationship, Managing
Patient Complaints, Drug Diversion and
Narcotic Management and Medical Records
Issues—Andrea Driscoll from Calais
Regional Medical Services said, “The one
I attended was excellent, but I would
have liked to attend two.”
Box office hits
The eye-opener for the Company was the
apparent growth in demand for its new
programs. Due to overwhelming response
to its initial invitation, Medical Mutual
doubled the capacity for the Practice
Manager’s Workshop and was still unable
to accommodate all who eventually requested
spots on the afternoon-long workshop
that was held Tuesday July 8, 2008.
On Tuesday August 5, 2008, The
Hospital Education Program, which
looked at the changing nature of hospital
litigation and the trend of lawsuits focusing
on new targets such as hospital
administrators, department heads and credentialing
specialists, also experienced
strong attendance. “Participants represented
the gamut of hospital management,” said
John Doyle, Medical Mutual Vice
President of Marketing and Corporate
Communications. “There were CEO’s
and CFOs, physicians, risk managers,
quality managers and credentialing managers
from 19 different hospitals. And
seven of those hospitals were not even
current insureds of Medical Mutual.”
Benefits not confined to policyholders
“The success of the educational programs
we’ve been putting on for the past couple
of years has definitely surpassed our
expectations. They’re not only helping our
member-policyholders learn about best
practices in risk management, they’re also
contributing to our mission of supporting
the larger healthcare community of
Northern New England,” said Doyle.
Doyle said plans are already underway for a full slate of 2009 educational programs — possibly including encore performances should the demand for these valuable presentations continue to rise.
