Medical Mutual Restores Part-Time Discount for Surgical Specialties
Medical Mutual has filed for and received approval from the
Maine Bureau of Insurance and the New Hampshire Insurance
Department to revise its part-time discount rating rules for new and
renewal physician business effective July 15, 2007. The new rating
rules will make physicians whose practices involve major surgery
or invasive/interventional procedures, or who are classified as a Rate
Class 5 or a Rate Class 7 or greater, eligible for a part-time credit.
Company President and CEO, Terrance Sheehan, MD, said,
“We understand that in today’s world, physicians sometimes need
to modify their practice activities. Sometimes it’s in response to
support family or other demands and other times it’s simply a
matter of making lifestyle choices. As a Company, we strive to
meet the needs of our insureds whenever possible and this policy
change is in recognition of that real-life need for some physicians
to be able to work a modified schedule.”
All requests for a part-time discount must be submitted in
writing by the physician. The request should also include: specific
information on the expected work schedule, estimated hours and
number of patients seen per week, a description of any call
arrangement and how time away from the clinical practice will be
spent. Other terms and conditions could apply. Should you have
any questions or need further clarification, please call the
Underwriting Department at 1 (800) 942-2791 or your authorized
independent agent.
